Perhaps you know someone who has been involved in a car accident and they’ve suffered whiplash? A whiplash neck sprain occurs when your head is suddenly jolted backwards and forwards in a whip-like movement. In effect your neck is forced to move beyond it’s normal range of motion, and so results in a sprain to some neck muscles and ligaments. This snap action is relevant to how to avoid attracting nasty surprises in to your life.
In last month’s article we talked about how taking an incremental approach to feeling better about a goal means we can achieve it. Our emotions are key to manifesting our goals. Whilst we can focus on a particular outcome, if we’re not feeling positive about it we’re in the territory of lack mentality. Feelings of lack generate the opposite of what we seek, regardless of how much we spend time working towards an outcome.
Working with our internal emotional navigation system, and working up the scale of emotions a few steps at time, we can achieve sustainable progress. The beauty of working with the Emotional Guidance System is that we can chart our progress and know that we’re heading in the right direction. This cuts out a long and weary journey.
So where does a car collision fit into all of this?
Just as a jarring shock can lead to pain in our neck, so trying to jump from one extreme of the Emotional Guidance System to the other is likely to lead to a kick in the teeth to your emotional self. Ouch!
It’s likely to leave you dazed, and confused having slithered down a snake back to zero. The reason for this shock is that the change in emotion is too drastic to be sustained by your emotional self. How can a person easily go from feeling disempowered to positive eagerness and authentically maintain that? The contrast is too strong to be easily adjusted to.
We call this sudden change vibrational whiplash. Repeating this movement can lead to a feeling of continually being on a treadmill of hope and then shattering disenchantment. Going through this cycle again and again is demoralising. Perhaps this explains why flash in the pan action can leave some people claiming the Law of Attraction is just a gimmick, and they wash their hands clean of it?
You might prefer to play a game of snakes and ladders where the snakes have been weeded out. By moving your emotional response to your goal just a few rungs up the Emotional Guidance System, you’ll be able to sustain tangible feel-good progress that will support you to carry on up.
